Psychiatric Associates of Iowa City is
pleased to announce that Erica Lutz,
RN, LMHC, has completed training in
the Maudsley Approach, or family-
based treatment (FBT), through the
University of Chicago Eating Disorder
Clinic.
This form of family therapy is
designed for the treatment of anorexia
nervosa in adolescents. It is built
around the principle that parents
themselves are the best resource to
bring their child back to full health.
Erica is one of just a few FBT
therapists in this area. Watch for her
community presentation in February
2013.

computers
and more

groceries are probably the first things
that come to mind.
But now bar coding has a place in
health care—and at Mercy Iowa City.

bar coded to increase safety. Beginning
in the pharmacy and continuing to
the patient bedside, bar codes and bar
code scanners are used to ensure that
patients receive the right medication
at the right time.
This is just one recent milestone
in Mercy’s implementation of the
electronic health record. Physicians
and other care providers are also
entering their patient orders—from
medications to therapies to nursing
cares—into specialized computer soft-
ware. This system, sometimes called
computerized provider order entry
or CPOE, provides several benefits,
such as:

The

important
because it
simplifies registration
for patients, improves
coordination between
care providers and
reduces medical
errors.”
