From the beginning, Jamie Greiner,
MD, knew she wanted to practice
medicine.
“I remember career days in elemen-
tary school through junior high, always
dressing up as a physician,” says Dr.
Greiner, a family physician at
Mercy
Family Medicine in Coralville
.
Dr. Greiner has aunts and uncles
who are doctors but doesn’t know that they in uenced her.
“ ere was no de ning moment for me,” she says. “I
can never remember wanting to do anything else.”
Dr. Greiner is from the town of Keota, about miles
southwest of Iowa City, where she graduated from high
school before attending Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
She received her medical degree from the University
of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and did her residency
at Genesis Quad Cities Health Center.
Dr. Greiner and her husband timed the birth of their
rst baby, Jack, perfectly. He was born between the end
of her residency and the start of her position in
at
Mercy Family Medicine.
Jack, now , will be a big brother soon. Dr. Greiner is
expecting her second child in March.
She names preventive health and women’s health as
a couple of professional interests. And treating patients,
from babies to older adults, is one of the aspects of her
job that Dr. Greiner most enjoys, along with the variety
of work her job involves.
“I like the relationships with people,” she says, “getting
to know them and their families.”
In her free time, Dr. Greiner is an avid gardener and
enjoys spending time with her husband and son.
As much as she likes her job, Dr. Greiner would pre-
fer to do without the paperwork involved as health care
evolves.
“ e main goal is just to take good care of your pa-
tients,” she says. “No matter what else is going on, that
has to be your ultimate priority.”
